Warts are tumor-like local growths or elevations on the skin that occur when one gets infected by the human papilloma virus or HPV. Warts are also known as verucca. They are harmless but may create discomfort and hurt one when they get rubbed against garments or accessories. It is considered that warts are contagious. But it has also been seen that any one family member having warts may not spread the infection to other members. Also the growths may occur in only one part of the body and remain confined to that part alone. Warts can affect both children and adults. In children, they tend to disappear on their own but in adults they tend to persist. Depending upon the location, warts can be classified as follows:

1. Common - These usually occur on fingers.
2. Planter - They occur on soles of feet.
3. Genital - They occur on the genitals. They are usually transmitted sexually.
4. Flat - They on frequently shaved regions of body.
5. Periungual - They occur around or under nails
6. Filiform - They consist of a single long stalk and occur on face.

Home Remedies

1. Peel off banana. Tie the peel around the wart with the inner side facing the infected skin. Practice this with fresh peels after every 12 hours. This is an effective home remedy for wart.

2. Extract oil from cashew nut shell, apply on wart and bandage it. This checks wart growth.

3. Rubbing potato slice on warts dislodges them.

4. Application of tea tree oil on warts helps to remove them.

5. Rub chalk on warts to remove them.

6. Soak an onion slice in vinegar and keep overnight. In the morning, place the slice on warts and fix with an adhesive tape. This is a good wart cure.

7. Application of camphor oil on warts several times daily removes them

8. Place a crushed clove of garlic on wart and stick a tape to hold it in place. This is a useful wart remedy.

9. Immerse the warty skin in warm water for 15-20 minutes. Then dab the area with a cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar. After sometime wash off with plain water and pat the skin dry.

10. Apply grapefruit juice on warts thrice daily and cover the area with a clean bandage. This removes warts.

11. Grind flaxseeds, mix with flaxseed oil and add some raw honey. Apply this poultice on warts daily. This will give you a wart free skin.

12. Application of fresh pineapple slices on warts several times daily solves the problem.

13. Massaging warty skin with castor oil many times a day helps to remove them.

14. Apply the juice extracted from fig stems on warts. This cures warts.
